358. THE sage observes, A truthful word is better than silence.

ואמר כי אנשים גנו לפני המלך [אחד] הדברים. אמר חלילה [לאל.] כי מי שיטיב לדבר יוכל לשתוק ולהטיב:
359. Some individuals having in the presence of the king indiscriminately censured speech, were thus addressed by him: Ear be it from me to agree with you, for he who knows when to speak, will likewise know when to be silent.

ואמר לא ימלאנו לבו לדבר אלא מופלג או מחליק.
360. None but the profound scholar or distinguished orator should address an assembly.

ואמר יש מלה [שמחליק ומשיבה] נקמה:
361. There are many persuasive words that may soften down resentment.
אמר החכם דבר אמת טוב מהשתיקה ממנו:
