Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Erev Rosh Hashana, Chapter 9

‹›
  1. 1

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

    Trusted God, extend help

  4. 4

and do goodness to Your entire nation

  5. 5

[when] they come together to be judged.

  6. 6

[He] Who knows their innermost thoughts

  7. 7

[and] rules the world with His might

  8. 8

brings to judgment for everything hidden.

  9. 9

God, Who is exalted through judgment1I.e. by bringing the evil to justice, all perceive Him ruling the world.

  10. 10

    [and] sanctified through His righteousness,

  11. 11

    [powerful] as the mighty mountains

  12. 12

    when He judges Israel.

  13. 13

Remove retribution from those You carry,2“Those You carry,” i.e. the nation of Israel.

  14. 14

those who exalt You with “Grace and truth.”3I.e. those who recognize God’s grace and truth.

  15. 15

    Righteousness and justice

  16. 16

are the foundations of Your Throne.

  17. 17

Straighten before You, a crooked heart,

  18. 18

Your judgment bores through the mountain4I.e. nothing can stand in the way of God’s judgment.—

  19. 19

the justice of the God of Jacob.

  20. 20

    The righteousness of Your virtues

  21. 21

    are delightful,

  22. 22

    the world’s inhabitants learned justice

  23. 23

as they stand to be judged by You.

  24. 24

Your seal [of justice] is pure and clean,

  25. 25

according to man’s acts [his fate] is sealed.

  26. 26

[Thus], the judgments of God are true.

  27. 27

    All fear the Prosecutor

  28. 28

Who grinds and pulverizes finely.5I.e. who investigates to the minutest detail.

  29. 29

The judgments of God are true and just.

  30. 30

He is a good supporter as He promised,6I.e. He is good to us even when punishing us.

  31. 31

on this day7I.e. on the judgment day. He will forget His wrath

  32. 32

    when He judges His nation.

  33. 33

Those clinging to You pour [their hearts] out in prayer,

  34. 34

and praise You for Your perfect laws

  35. 35

    [and] for Your righteous judgment.

  36. 36

    Erase the stain of sin

  37. 37

    וְאַל־יֵבוֹשׁוּ

    let them not be shamed,

  38. 38

those who look to You in hope

  39. 39

and do justice for them.8“Do … them” i.e. avenge them.

  40. 40

We were established to remember Your Name

  41. 41

we were placed for an everlasting covenant.

  42. 42

[Thus] do not come into judgment with us.9I.e. do not judge us harshly.

  43. 43

The One Who rules the angels!

  44. 44

May He close the breach with compassion

  45. 45

and through judgment establish the Land.10I.e. may He rebuild our land by first avenging us.

  46. 46

My songs praise Him the entire day

  47. 47

for we do not find Him burdening us

  48. 48

[For it is God’s (way) to be just].

  49. 49

Strengthen Your nation with Your kindness,

  50. 50

to their cries open Your heavens

  51. 51

as befits those who love Your Name.

  52. 52

We will throw all our burdens upon You.11I.e.—we will trust in You to care for all our problems.

  53. 53

Tip the scales with love12I.e. out of Your love for us let our merits outweigh our discretions.

  54. 54

    for Your justice is good.

  55. 55

Shine Your countenance to forgive me

  56. 56

    for my sin

  57. 57

do not extinguish my ember13Do not have me die.

  58. 58

for to Your justice do I look forward.

  59. 59

Find us righteous as one being,14Consider us as one with the rest of the Jewish nation.

  60. 60

keep us from the blaze of the coming day15“Coming day”—i.e. the day of Judgment.

  61. 61

    for Your judgment is unfathomable.

  62. 62

Bring Your tribes closer to salvation,

  63. 63

who are tied to the ropes of Your chastisement

  64. 64

and the righteousness of Your judgment.

  65. 65

Song from the heart of flesh and soul

  66. 66

shall rise to You to the heavens,

  67. 67

the place of judgment is there.

  68. 68

Our Judge, Who formed us with Your hands,

  69. 69

teach Your ways to those who look to You

  70. 70

as well as all the Laws that you commanded.

  71. 71

    Bestow Your abundant goodness,

  72. 72

Your powerful mercy according to our will.

  73. 73

As is Your manner, grant us life.

  74. 74

The Temple [has become] stones of the field.

  75. 75

    מַהֵר לְשַׁכְלֵל יְסוֹדָהּ.

    Hurry to establish its foundation;

  76. 76

Zion will be redeemed through justice.

  77. 77

    Avenge Me from my enemies

  78. 78

    Who have scattered me.

  79. 79

    Lop off the horns

  80. 80

of those who have scattered me

  81. 81

and Your judgment [of my enemies]

  82. 82

    will save me.

  83. 83

    Almighty! King!

  84. 84

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  85. 85

    governs with kindness

  86. 86

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  87. 87

He removes their sins one by one,

  88. 88

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  89. 89

    and pardon to transgressors.

  90. 90

    Acting righteously

  91. 91

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  92. 92

    not according to their wickedness

  93. 93

    does He repay them.

  94. 94

    Almighty!

  95. 95

    You instructed us to recite

  96. 96

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  97. 97

    remember unto us this day

  98. 98

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  99. 99

    as You made them known

  100. 100

to the humble Moses of old,

  101. 101

    as it is written,

  102. 102

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  103. 103

    and stood with him there,

  104. 104

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  105. 105

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  106. 106

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses],

  107. 107

    and proclaimed:

  108. 108

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  109. 109

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  110. 110

    Slow to Anger,

  111. 111

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  112. 112

    Keeper of kindness

  113. 113

    for thousands of generations,

  114. 114

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  115. 115

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  116. 116

and Acquitter of those who repent.

  117. 117

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  118. 118

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  119. 119

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  120. 120

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  121. 121

    “For You, my Master,

  122. 122

    are good and forgiving,

  123. 123

    and abounding in kindness

  124. 124

to all who call upon You.”

  125. 125

Do not enter into judgment with us

  126. 126

for no living soul will be justified before You.

  127. 127

God is our hope and strength,

  128. 128

our help in trouble, He is most accessible.

  129. 129

May God favor us and bless us,

  130. 130

may He cause His countenance to shine

  131. 131

    among us forever.

  132. 132

    God judges,

  133. 133

this one He humbles and this one He exalts.

  134. 134

God, deliver us with Your Name,

  135. 135

and with Your might, judge us.

  136. 136

    God, hear our prayer,

  137. 137

give ear to the words of our mouth.

  138. 138

    Adonoy, God of Hosts,

  139. 139

cause us to return to You,

  140. 140

    enlighten us with Your countenance

  141. 141

    and we will be delivered.

  142. 142

As a father has compassion on his children

  143. 143

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  144. 144

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  145. 145

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  146. 146

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  147. 147

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  148. 148

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  149. 149

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  150. 150

    יְהֹוָה הוֹשִֽׁיעָה,

    Adonoy, deliver us;

  151. 151

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  152. 152

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  153. 153

    in accordance with the greatness

  154. 154

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  155. 155

and as You forgave this people

  156. 156

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  157. 157

    And there it is said:

  158. 158

    “And Adonoy said,

  159. 159

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  160. 160

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  161. 161

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  162. 162

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  163. 163

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  164. 164

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  165. 165

but because of Your great mercy.

  166. 166

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  167. 167

My Master, listen and take action,

  168. 168

    do not delay!

  169. 169

    For Your sake, my God,

  170. 170

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  171. 171

over Your city and over Your people.
