Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Second Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 6

‹›
  1. 1

  2. 2

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

There is no God besides You,

  4. 4

Your dominion is over all generations,

  5. 5

    and Your covenant endures forever.

  6. 6

Your right hand knows no restraint,

  7. 7

the power of Your hand is unlimited,

  8. 8

    Almighty, Who answers in distress.

  9. 9

    Mighty are Your wonders,

  10. 10

and the power of Your kingdom is forever,

  11. 11

    and Your years are unending.

  12. 12

    Avenger of [our] blood,

  13. 13

You have saved us many times,

  14. 14

    and humbled mighty kings.

  15. 15

    Behold, You have not changed,

  16. 16

You are now what You have always been,

  17. 17

the sons of Jacob, You have not consumed.

  18. 18

    As we are their descendants,

  19. 19

    why are we forsaken forever,

  20. 20

and forgotten as dead men, from the heart?

  21. 21

We are scattered in every corner,

  22. 22

    enslaved in every country,

  23. 23

and no favor is shown us.

  24. 24

We are obscured among every people,

  25. 25

and put to shame and disgrace

  26. 26

among the nations of the world.

  27. 27

We are sunk in the lowest depths,

  28. 28

    we have collapsed

  29. 29

and there is none to raise us,

  30. 30

to You alone do we cry.

  31. 31

We sit [disgraced] as false witnesses,

  32. 32

    ashamed to lift our heads,

  33. 33

and are drunk with gall and wormwood.

  34. 34

We stumble at noon and at night,

  35. 35

like the blind, we grope in the darkness,

  36. 36

and know not the time of our redemption.

  37. 37

    Even those purchased for money,

  38. 38

    can be freed,

  39. 39

but we are wearied day and night

  40. 40

    and find no rest.

  41. 41

How can I endure in the thick slime,1Of Exile.

  42. 42

    and what is my end

  43. 43

    that I should be patient

  44. 44

until the time You bring me to freedom?

  45. 45

    In the morning we say:

  46. 46

    “Would it were evening,”

  47. 47

    and in the evening:

  48. 48

“Would that the morning2Yesterday’s morning; see Rashi to Deut. 28:67. draw near,”

  49. 49

because of fear of heart and soul.

  50. 50

We are likened to sheep gone astray,

  51. 51

    whoever finds us, consumes us,

  52. 52

and takes no pity on our souls.

  53. 53

I lifted my eyes around me

  54. 54

    and looked left and right,

  55. 55

but I found no one who knows me.3Who cares for me.

  56. 56

    I turned to every side

  57. 57

    but there was no help,

  58. 58

I cried to You and called—

  59. 59

Almighty, Who answers in time of trouble.

  60. 60

O Rock, Your hand is not shortened,4I.e., limited.

  61. 61

Yours is the power and strength,

  62. 62

    why do You sleep—rouse Yourself.

  63. 63

Listen to our words of supplication,

  64. 64

    behold our feebled state,

  65. 65

and do not rebuke us with Your anger.

  66. 66

Look on the humiliation of our generation,

  67. 67

    regard our heavy grief

  68. 68

and do not chastise us with Your rage.

  69. 69

Turn to our cry from Your Dwelling,

  70. 70

look on the groans of Your children,

  71. 71

and turn us not away empty-handed

  72. 72

    from Your Presence.

  73. 73

We seek You with entreaty and prayer,

  74. 74

O God, favor us in this hour,

  75. 75

    and hear Adonoy, our supplication.

  76. 76

    Almighty! King!

  77. 77

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  78. 78

    governs with kindness

  79. 79

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  80. 80

He removes their sins one by one,

  81. 81

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  82. 82

    and pardon to transgressors.

  83. 83

    Acting righteously

  84. 84

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  85. 85

    not according to their wickedness

  86. 86

    does He repay them.

  87. 87

    Almighty!

  88. 88

    You instructed us to recite

  89. 89

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  90. 90

    remember unto us this day

  91. 91

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  92. 92

    as You made them known

  93. 93

to the humble Moses of old,

  94. 94

    as it is written,

  95. 95

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  96. 96

    and stood with him there,

  97. 97

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  98. 98

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  99. 99

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses],

  100. 100

    and proclaimed:

  101. 101

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  102. 102

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  103. 103

    Slow to Anger,

  104. 104

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  105. 105

    Keeper of kindness

  106. 106

    for thousands of generations,

  107. 107

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  108. 108

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  109. 109

and Acquitter of those who repent.

  110. 110

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  111. 111

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  112. 112

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  113. 113

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  114. 114

    “For You, my Master,

  115. 115

    are good and forgiving,

  116. 116

    and abounding in kindness

  117. 117

to all who call upon You.”

  118. 118

    All the peoples

  119. 119

walk, each of them, in the name of his god,

  120. 120

    but we walk

  121. 121

in the Name of Adonoy, our God forever.

  122. 122

And we trust in Your loving kindness,

  123. 123

our hearts will exult in Your deliverance.

  124. 124

And we will sing of Your strength,

  125. 125

    we will sing joyously

  126. 126

of Your lovingkindness in the morning.

  127. 127

    And through Your abundant kindness

  128. 128

    נָבוֹא בֵיתֶֽךָ

    we will enter Your House;

  129. 129

    we will prostrate ourselves

  130. 130

toward Your Holy Sanctuary in awe of You.

  131. 131

As a father has compassion on his children

  132. 132

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  133. 133

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  134. 134

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  135. 135

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  136. 136

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  137. 137

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  138. 138

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  139. 139

    יְהֹוָה הוֹשִֽׁיעָה,

    Adonoy, deliver us;

  140. 140

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  141. 141

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  142. 142

    in accordance with the greatness

  143. 143

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  144. 144

and as You forgave this people

  145. 145

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  146. 146

    And there it is said:

  147. 147

    “And Adonoy said,

  148. 148

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  149. 149

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  150. 150

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  151. 151

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  152. 152

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  153. 153

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  154. 154

but because of Your great mercy.

  155. 155

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  156. 156

My Master, listen and take action,

  157. 157

    do not delay!

  158. 158

    For Your sake, my God,

  159. 159

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  160. 160

over Your city and over Your people.
