His disciples said to him: O Our Master, are you a prophet? He said to them (in the words of Amos 7:14): I AM NEITHER A PROPHET NOR THE SON OF A PROPHET. Rather this was handed down to me from my masters: Whoever teaches halakhah in the presence of his master is under sentence of death.

They said to him: Rabbi, have we not learned thus: A student is forbidden to teach halakhah in the presence of his master until he is twelve miles away from him, < a distance > corresponding to the camp of Israel?
