Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Fast of Gedaliah, Chapter 6

‹›
  1. 1

This prayer was composed by Rabbi Benjamin ben Zorach.

  2. 2

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

    You taught us of old,

  4. 4

    אֲרֶשֶׁת נִיב שְֹפָתַיִם.

    to entreat You with our lips;

  5. 5

    [how] with prayer and supplication

  6. 6

    to knock at [Your] door.

  7. 7

    We approach You with diligence

  8. 8

    and not with laziness—

  9. 9

    avert calamities [from us]

  10. 10

that come from time to time.

  11. 11

    Behold we come before You

  12. 12

with broken spirit and humbled heart,

  13. 13

    to confess before You

  14. 14

    כָּל־פִּתּוּל וְעִקְשׁוּת־לֵב.

    all our follies and stubborness of heart;

  15. 15

    You Who searches hearts,

  16. 16

and heals the broken in spirit,

  17. 17

renew a correct spirit within us,

  18. 18

and create for us a pure heart.

  19. 19

    You appointed from of old

  20. 20

    these ten days,

  21. 21

    for each individual to return

  22. 22

    and find atonement,

  23. 23

    while the entire year

  24. 24

    is available for communal repentance,

  25. 25

    to cry and pray

  26. 26

in times of anguish and distress.

  27. 27

    If the individual hastens

  28. 28

and repents within [these ten days],

  29. 29

    מוֹחְלִין־לוֹ.

    he is pardoned;

  30. 30

but if he despairs [of atonement]

  31. 31

    and does not repent,

  32. 32

there is no hope for his iniquity.

  33. 33

Even if he prepares and offers

  34. 34

all the rams of Nevayos1A place of the choicest rams. to help him,

  35. 35

though he will plead and cry

  36. 36

his prayer will not be heard.

  37. 37

    The prayers of the congregation

  38. 38

as well as those of the individual,

  39. 39

    לְךָ־לְבַד עוֹלָה.

    ascend to You alone;

  40. 40

    צוּר, כִּי אַתָּה שׁוֹמֵעַ תְּפִלָּה.

    for You, our Rock, hear prayer;

  41. 41

    receive us with favor

  42. 42

    and grant us pardon,

  43. 43

    favor us

  44. 44

as though we had brought burnt-offerings.

  45. 45

    Judge us

  46. 46

    with compassion and pity—

  47. 47

    Your distinguished children

  48. 48

whom You took for Your treasure—

  49. 49

    יֹקֶשׁ־מֶרְיָם

    let their disobedience

  50. 50

be drowned in the depths of the sea,

  51. 51

and let them praise You forever

  52. 52

    with every kind of praise.

  53. 53

    Almighty! King!

  54. 54

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  55. 55

    governs with kindness

  56. 56

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  57. 57

He removes their sins one by one,

  58. 58

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  59. 59

    and pardon to transgressors.

  60. 60

    Acting righteously

  61. 61

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  62. 62

    not according to their wickedness

  63. 63

    does He repay them.

  64. 64

    Almighty!

  65. 65

    You instructed us to recite

  66. 66

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  67. 67

    remember unto us this day

  68. 68

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  69. 69

    as You made them known

  70. 70

to the humble Moses of old,

  71. 71

    as it is written,

  72. 72

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  73. 73

    and stood with him there,

  74. 74

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  75. 75

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  76. 76

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses],

  77. 77

    and proclaimed:

  78. 78

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  79. 79

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  80. 80

    Slow to Anger,

  81. 81

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  82. 82

    Keeper of kindness

  83. 83

    for thousands of generations,

  84. 84

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  85. 85

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  86. 86

and Acquitter of those who repent.

  87. 87

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  88. 88

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  89. 89

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  90. 90

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  91. 91

    “For You, my Master,

  92. 92

    are good and forgiving,

  93. 93

    and abounding in kindness

  94. 94

to all who call upon You.”

  95. 95

Remember not the sins of our ancestors,

  96. 96

let Your mercy come swiftly toward us,

  97. 97

for we have been brought very low.

  98. 98

For Adonoy hears the [cry] of the needy,

  99. 99

and His bound ones, He does not shame.

  100. 100

For our lives are spent in sorrow,

  101. 101

    and our years in sighing.

  102. 102

For because of [our faith in] You

  103. 103

    הֹרַגְנוּ כָל־הַיּוֹם

    we are murdered each day;

  104. 104

    we are considered as sheep

  105. 105

    to be slaughtered.

  106. 106

For You will not forsake us forever, O God.

  107. 107

As a father has compassion on his children

  108. 108

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  109. 109

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  110. 110

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  111. 111

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  112. 112

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  113. 113

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  114. 114

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  115. 115

    יְהֹוָה הוֹשִֽׁיעָה,

    Adonoy, deliver us;

  116. 116

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  117. 117

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  118. 118

    in accordance with the greatness

  119. 119

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  120. 120

and as You forgave this people

  121. 121

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  122. 122

    And there it is said:

  123. 123

    “And Adonoy said,

  124. 124

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  125. 125

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  126. 126

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  127. 127

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  128. 128

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  129. 129

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  130. 130

but because of Your great mercy.

  131. 131

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  132. 132

My Master, listen and take action,

  133. 133

    do not delay!

  134. 134

    For Your sake, my God,

  135. 135

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  136. 136

over Your city and over Your people.
