‹›
  1. 1

This prayer was composed by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol.

  2. 2

[You are] the Judge of all the earth,

  3. 3

and You arraign her in judgment,

  4. 4

we beseech You, life and kindness

  5. 5

    bestow on an afflicted people.

  6. 6

    Accept their morning prayer

  7. 7

as a substitute for the burnt offering—

  8. 8

as the burnt offering of the morning

  9. 9

which was a continual burnt offering.

  10. 10

You are wrapped in a cloak of righteousness,

  11. 11

You alone have the ability [to forgive],

  12. 12

if we have no [good] deeds,

  13. 13

    recall the virtues

  14. 14

of the [Patriarchs] who sleep in Hebron,

  15. 15

    and may their merits ascend

  16. 16

as a memorial before Adonoy always.

  17. 17

As the burnt offering of the morning

  18. 18

which was a continual burnt offering.

  19. 19

    You are inclined towards kindness

  20. 20

    to favor man with life.

  21. 21

    Incline Your nation toward kindness

  22. 22

be benevolent with him, that he may live,

  23. 23

inscribe him with the sign of life,

  24. 24

and let it be on his forehead always.

  25. 25

As the burnt offering of the morning

  26. 26

which was a continual burnt offering.

  27. 27

Do good, as You see fit, to Zion,

  28. 28

    My holy city.

  29. 29

Grant power and fame in Your House

  30. 30

to my holy ones [the pious and righteous],

  31. 31

    וַעֲרִיכַת נֵר לְבֶן־יִשַּׁי,

    and an illuminated lamp for the son of Yishai;

  32. 32

that a light be kept burning always.

  33. 33

As the burnt offering of the morning

  34. 34

which was a continual burnt offering.

  35. 35

Be strong and let your hearts take courage

  36. 36

    עַמִּי בָּאֵל מָעֻזּוֹ.

    my people, whose strength is in the Almighty;

  37. 37

and when You keep His testimonies,

  38. 38

He, too, will in equal measure

  39. 39

    atone Your sins,

  40. 40

and will remember mercy in His anger.

  41. 41

    Seek Adonoy and His strength,

  42. 42

    seek His Presence always.

  43. 43

As the burnt offering of the morning

  44. 44

which was a continual burnt offering.

  45. 45

    Almighty! King!

  46. 46

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  47. 47

    governs with kindness

  48. 48

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  49. 49

He removes their sins one by one,

  50. 50

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  51. 51

    and pardon to transgressors.

  52. 52

    Acting righteously

  53. 53

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  54. 54

    not according to their wickedness

  55. 55

    does He repay them.

  56. 56

    Almighty!

  57. 57

    You instructed us to recite

  58. 58

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  59. 59

    remember unto us this day

  60. 60

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  61. 61

    as You made them known

  62. 62

to the humble Moses of old,

  63. 63

    as it is written,

  64. 64

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  65. 65

    and stood with him there,

  66. 66

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  67. 67

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  68. 68

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  69. 69

    and proclaimed:

  70. 70

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  71. 71

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  72. 72

    Slow to Anger,

  73. 73

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  74. 74

    Keeper of kindness

  75. 75

    for thousands of generations,

  76. 76

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  77. 77

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  78. 78

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  79. 79

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  80. 80

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  81. 81

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  82. 82

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  83. 83

    “For You, my Master,

  84. 84

    are good and forgiving,

  85. 85

    and abounding in kindness

  86. 86

to all who call upon You.”

  87. 87

    אַל תִּזְכָּר לָנוּ עֲו‍ֹנוֹת רִאשׁוֹנִים.

    Remember not the sins of our ancestors;

  88. 88

let Your compassion come swiftly toward us,

  89. 89

for we have been brought very low.

  90. 90

The sins of our youth and our transgressions,

  91. 91

    אַל תִּזְכֹּר

    remember not;

  92. 92

    with Your kindliness remember us

  93. 93

for the sake of Your goodness, Adonoy.

  94. 94

    Remember Your mercies, Adonoy,

  95. 95

    and kindlinesses

  96. 96

for they are from the beginning of the world.

  97. 97

    Remember us Adonoy

  98. 98

    with favor for Your people

  99. 99

    recall us with Your deliverance.

  100. 100

    Remember Your congregation

  101. 101

which You have acquired of old,

  102. 102

    You have redeemed the tribe

  103. 103

    of Your inheritance,

  104. 104

this mountain of Zion where You have dwelled.

  105. 105

Remember, Adonoy, the affection of Jerusalem,

  106. 106

the love of Zion, forget not until eternity.

  107. 107

    Remember, Adonoy,

  108. 108

to the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem,

  109. 109

    [it was they] who said,

  110. 110

“Raze it, raze it to its very foundations.”

  111. 111

    You will arise

  112. 112

    and have compassion on Zion,

  113. 113

for it is time to be gracious to her,

  114. 114

for the appointed time has come.

  115. 115

    Remember Abraham, Isaac, Israel,

  116. 116

    Your servants,

  117. 117

to whom You swore by Your very Self,

  118. 118

    and You said to them:

  119. 119

    “I will multiply your seed

  120. 120

    כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמָֽיִם.

    as the stars of the heavens;

  121. 121

and all this land that I have promised,

  122. 122

I will give to your descendants,

  123. 123

and they will inherit it forever.”

  124. 124

    Remember Your servants,

  125. 125

    לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב.

    Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob;

  126. 126

do not regard the stubborness of this people,

  127. 127

or their wickedness, or their sin.

  128. 128

    Do not, we beseech You

  129. 129

    place upon us this sin,

  130. 130

wherein we have acted foolishly and sinned.

  131. 131

    We have sinned, our Rock,

  132. 132

    forgive us, our Creator.
