1י. פזמון חותם שם המחבר שמואל כהן יחי2מַלְאֲכֵי רַחֲמִים מְשָׁרְתֵי עֶלְיוֹןMessengers of mercy, angels of the Most High!3חַלּוּ נָא פְנֵי־אֵלbeseech the Presence of the Almighty4בְּמֵיטַב הִגָּיוֹן.with words of virtue [concerning Israel].5אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps, He will spare6עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people.7אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.8אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate9שְׁאֵרִית יוֹסֵף.with the remnant of Joseph,16See Amos 5:16.10שְׁפָלִים וְנִבְזִים פְּשׁוּחֵי שֶׁסֶף.who are lowly and disgraced, torn to pieces,11שְׁבוּיֵי חִנָּם מְכוּרֵי בְּלֹא־כֶסֶף.innocent captives, sold without compensation;12שׁוֹאֲגִים בִּתְפִלָּהthey cry out in prayer13וּמְבַקְּשִׁים רִשָּׁיוֹן:seeking permission [to enter His Presence].14אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare15עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,16אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.17אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate18מְעֻנֵּי כֶבֶל.toward those who are afflicted in chains,19מְלֻמְּדֵי מַכּוֹת בְּעִנּוּי סֶבֶל.accustomed to beatings—enduring oppression,20מְנוֹד־רֹאשׁ נְתוּנִיםthe subject of head-shaking21בְּיוֹשְׁבֵי תֵבֵל.among the nations;22מָשָׁל בָּעַמִּים בְּקֶצֶף וּבִזָּיוֹן:a byword among peoples, of anger and shame.23אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare24עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,25אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.26אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate27וְיֵרֶא בָּעֳנִי עַמּוֹ.and see the affliction of His people,28וְיַקְשֵׁב וְיִשְׁמַע הַצָּגִים לְעֻמּוֹ.and listen to those who pray to Him;29וְעוּדִים בְּלַחַשthey gather to offer silent prayer30מוּסָר לָמוֹ.amid their suffering,31וְעֵינֵיהֶם תּוֹלִים לִמְצֹא רִצָּיוֹן:their eyes look to Him, hoping for favor.32אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare33עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,34אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.35אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate36אוֹמְרֵי סְלַח־נָא.toward those who say “Please pardon us,”37אוֹמְצֵי שְׁבָחוֹ בְּכָל־עֵת וְעוֹנָה.who vigorously praise Him at all times,38אֲגוּדִים בַּצָּרָהwho band together in times of trouble39לִשְׁפֹּךְ תְּחִנָּה.to pour out supplications;40אֶת־פְּנֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶםin the Presence of their God,41שׁוֹפְכִים לֵב־דִּוָּיוֹן:they pour out their weak hearts.42אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare43עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,44אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.45אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate46לָקְתָה בְּכִפְלַיִם.upon those who have been doubly smitten,47לְעוּטָה אֲרָיוֹתswallowed by lions [enemies of Israel],48כְּמוֹ בְּפִי שַׁחֲלַיִם.even in the mouth of small lions49לוֹקָה וּמִשְׁתַּלֶּמֶתsmitten [by God] and punished50בַּעֲווֹן שׁוּלַיִם.for their conspicuous iniquities;17See Lamentations 1:9—טוּמֽאָתָה בְּשׁוּלֶיהָ51לֹא־שָׁכְחָה בְּכָל זֹאתyet, she has not forgotten52מִכְתַּב־עֹז חֶבְיוֹן:the Torah.18See Rashi to Habakuk 3:4—חֶבְיוֹן עוּזוֹ.53אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare54עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,55אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.56אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate57כְּבוּשֵׁי פָנִים.upon those who hide their faces [in shame],58הַשּׁוֹמְעִים חֶרְפָּתָםwho listen to their degradation59וְלֹא־מְשִׁיבִים וְעוֹנִים.and do not reply or argue;60נִצְחוֹ מְקַוִּיםto Him Who is eternal they hope,61וּלְיִשְׁעוֹ נִשְׁעָנִים.and upon His deliverance they depend,62כִּי לֹא כָלוּ רַחֲמָיו בְּכִלָּיוֹן:for His mercy is never absolutely withheld.63אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare64עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,65אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.66אוּלַי יְרַחֵםPerhaps He will be compassionate67יְחַלֵּץ־עָנִי בְעָנְיוֹ.to strengthen one, oppressed in poverty,68חֲבוּשׁוֹ יַתִּיר מֵאֶרֶץ שִׁבְיוֹ.release the captive from his land of captivity,69יִגְהֶה מְזוֹרוֹ וְיַחֲבֹשׁ חָלְיוֹ.remove his pain and heal his sickness,70צַעֲקָתוֹ יִשְׁמַעhear his cry71וְיָחִיש עֵת־פִּדָּיוֹן:and hasten the time of redemption.72אוּלַי יָחוֹסPerhaps [then] He will spare73עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹןthis poor and needy people,74אוּלַי יְרַחֵם:perhaps He will be compassionate.75אֵל מֶֽלֶךְ.Almighty! King!76יוֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא רַחֲמִים.Who sits on the throne of mercy,77מִתְנַהֵג בַּחֲסִידוּת.governs with kindness78מוֹחֵל עֲוֹנוֹת עַמּוֹ.forgives the iniquities of His people.79מַעֲבִיר רִאשׁוֹן רִאשׁוֹן.He removes their sins one by one,80מַרְבֶּה מְחִילָה לְחַטָּאִיםincreasing forgiveness to sinners,81וּסְלִיחָה לְפוֹשְׁעִים.and pardon to transgressors.82עוֹשֶׂה צְדָקוֹתActing righteously83עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.with all who are of flesh and spirit;84לֹא כְרָעָתָםnot according to their wickedness85תִּגְמוֹל:does He repay them.86אֵלAlmighty!87הוֹרֵיתָ לָנוּ לוֹמַרYou instructed us to recite88שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.the thirteen Divine attributes;89וּזְכָר לָֽנוּ הַיּוֹםremember unto us this day90בְּרִית שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,91כְּמוֹ שֶׁהוֹדַֽעְתָּas You made them known92לֶעָנָו מִקֶּֽדֶם.to the humble Moses of old,93כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּבas it is written,94וַיֵּרֶד יְהֹוָה בֶּֽעָנָן“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,95וַיִּתְיַצֵּב עִמּוֹ שָׁםand stood with him there,96וַיִּקְרָא בְשֵׁם יְהֹוָה:and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.97קהל וחזן:Congregation and Chazzan:98וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיוAnd Adonoy passed before him [Moses];99וַיִּקְרָא:and proclaimed:100יְהֹוָה יְהֹוָהAdonoy, Adonoy,101אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּןAlmighty, Merciful, Gracious,102אֶֽרֶךְ אַפַּֽיִםSlow to Anger,103וְרַב חֶֽסֶד וֶֽאֱמֶת:and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.104נֹצֵר חֶֽסֶדKeeper of kindness105לָאֲלָפִיםfor thousands of generations,106נֹשֵׂא עָוֹן וָפֶֽשַׁעEndurer of iniquity, and transgression,107וְחַטָּאָהand sin;108וְנַקֵּה:and Acquitter of those who repent.”109וְסָלַחְתָּ לַעֲוֹנֵֽנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵֽנוּ“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,110וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ:and take us for Your inheritance.”111סְלַח לָֽנוּ אָבִֽינוּ כִּי חָטָֽאנוּ.Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,112מְחַל לָֽנוּ מַלְכֵּֽנוּ כִּי פָשָֽׁעְנוּ:forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.113כִּי אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי“For You, my Master,114טוֹב וְסַלָּחare good and forgiving,115וְרַב חֶֽסֶדand abounding in kindness116לְכָל קֹרְאֶֽיךָ:to all who call upon You.”

חַלּוּ נָא פְנֵי־אֵל

Almighty!
הוֹרֵיתָ לָנוּ לוֹמַר
You instructed us to recite
שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

Slow to Anger,
וְרַב חֶֽסֶד וֶֽאֱמֶת:
and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.
נֹצֵר חֶֽסֶד
Keeper of kindness
לָאֲלָפִים
for thousands of generations,
נֹשֵׂא עָוֹן וָפֶֽשַׁע
Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,
וְחַטָּאָה
and sin;
וְנַקֵּה:
and Acquitter of those who repent.”
וְסָלַחְתָּ לַעֲוֹנֵֽנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵֽנוּ
“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,
וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ:
