Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Fifth Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 3

‹›
  1. 1

(Adonoy’s) people, be strong; let us be strong

  3. 3

    and call strongly to Adonoy.

  4. 4

The iniquitous will confess his sin,

  5. 5

and return to Adonoy who will pity him.

  6. 6

Call to Him who neither sleeps nor slumbers,

  7. 7

    Guardian of Israel,

  8. 8

    “Wake up! Why’re you sleeping?

  9. 9

Recall uprightness and deeds well done!”

  10. 10

And Adonoy will do what He thinks best.

  11. 11

    God of truth, assured us,

  12. 12

    “I do not desire a person’s death.”

  13. 13

    בְּהִמָּצְאוֹ דִּרְשׁוּהוּ בְּתַחַן לִקְרֹב.

    Now that He’s available, seek Him out;

  14. 14

call to Him when He is near.

  15. 15

    רַצּוּהוּ חַלּוּהוּ בְּאֵימָה עִבְדוּהוּ.

    Appease Him, beg Him, serve Him in awe;

  16. 16

    all Jacob’s seed, honor Him!

  17. 17

Persist at the doors of the patient One,

  18. 18

lift our hearts as high as our hands.

  19. 19

    Whoever can appease [Him] effectively—

  20. 20

prepare [to pray] to your God, O Israel.

  21. 21

    Arrange tearful prayers

  22. 22

    לְצָרָה.

    because of Your tribulation;

  23. 23

designate a fast; call a [prayer] meeting.

  24. 24

    Let God’s servant beg, pray

  25. 25

that He turn from His wrath

  26. 26

    lest we be lost.

  27. 27

Perhaps He will prefer those gifts

  28. 28

    to fattened [animals]

  29. 29

    and myriad streams of oil.

  30. 30

Prefer [our] heeding to burnt offerings,

  31. 31

obeying to the fat of rams.

  32. 32

    Refine and straighten the crooked—

  33. 33

recall these [to the seed] of Jacob.

  34. 34

    Bring words with you,

  35. 35

and let us make up for bullocks with our lips.

  36. 36

    For in Your abundant mercy

  37. 37

    we trust,

  38. 38

and on Your righteousness, we rely,

  39. 39

and for Your pardon, we hope,

  40. 40

and for Your deliverance, we yearn.

  41. 41

    You are a King

  42. 42

Who loves righteousness from of old,

  43. 43

Who passes over the iniquities of His people,

  44. 44

and removes the sins of those who fear Him.

  45. 45

You made a covenant with the Patriarchs,

  46. 46

    and will keep [Your] oath

  47. 47

    with their descendants.

  48. 48

    You are He Who descended

  49. 49

in the cloud of Your glory, on Mount Sinai,

  50. 50

and disclosed the ways of Your goodness

  51. 51

    to Moses, Your servant.

  52. 52

    The ways of Your kindliness,

  53. 53

    גִּלִּיתָ לוֹ,

    You revealed to him;

  54. 54

and You made known to him

  55. 55

that You are Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  56. 56

Slow to anger, Abounding in kindness,

  57. 57

    and full of beneficence,

  58. 58

    guiding the entire world

  59. 59

    with the quality of mercy.

  60. 60

    And so it is written:

  61. 61

    “And He said:

  62. 62

    ‘I will cause to pass

  63. 63

    all My goodness before you,

  64. 64

and I will proclaim the Name, Adonoy

  65. 65

    לְפָנֶיךָ.

    in your presence;

  66. 66

    I will be gracious

  67. 67

to whom I will be gracious,

  68. 68

    and I will be compassionate

  69. 69

to whom I will be compassionate.’”

  70. 70

You are Almighty, Slow to Anger,

  71. 71

Lord of Mercy, You are called,

  72. 72

and the way of repentance, You have taught us.

  73. 73

The greatness of Your mercy and kindliness,

  74. 74

remember this day and every day

  75. 75

for the descendants of Your loved ones.

  76. 76

    Turn to us with compassion

  77. 77

for You are the Lord of Mercy.

  78. 78

    With supplication and prayer

  79. 79

    we approach Your Presence,

  80. 80

    as You made known

  81. 81

to [Moses,] the modest one of old.

  82. 82

    From Your fierce anger turn,

  83. 83

as it is written in Your Torah.

  84. 84

In the shadow of Your wings,

  85. 85

may we be sheltered and lodged,

  86. 86

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  87. 87

“When Adonoy descended in the cloud.”

  88. 88

    Remove [our] transgression,

  89. 89

    and blot out [our] iniquity,

  90. 90

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  91. 91

“And He stood with him there.”

  92. 92

    Give ear to our cry

  93. 93

    and listen to our speech,

  94. 94

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  95. 95

“And He proclaimed the Name, Adonoy”

  96. 96

    And there it is said:

  97. 97

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  98. 98

“And Adonoy passed before him [Moses]

  99. 99

    and proclaimed:

  100. 100

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  101. 101

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  102. 102

    Slow to Anger,

  103. 103

and Abundant in Kindness and Truth.

  104. 104

    Keeper of kindness

  105. 105

    for thousands of generations,

  106. 106

    Endurer of iniquity and transgression,

  107. 107

    and sin,

  108. 108

And Acquitter of those who repent.”

  109. 109

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  110. 110

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  111. 111

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  112. 112

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  113. 113

    For You, my Master,

  114. 114

    are good and forgiving,

  115. 115

    and abounding in kindness

  116. 116

to all who call upon You.

  117. 117

Give ear, O God, to my prayer,

  118. 118

and do not ingore my supplication.

  119. 119

    May our prayers be considered

  120. 120

    as incense-offerings before You,

  121. 121

the uplifting of our hands [in prayer]

  122. 122

    as pleasant offerings.

  123. 123

Give ear, Adonoy, to our prayers,

  124. 124

listen to the sound of our supplications.

  125. 125

Listen to the sound of our cry,

  126. 126

    our King and our God,

  127. 127

for [only] unto You do we pray.

  128. 128

Adonoy, God of Israel, You are righteous

  129. 129

for there is still a remnant of us

  130. 130

    even to this day.

  131. 131

As a father has compassion on his children

  132. 132

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  133. 133

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  134. 134

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  135. 135

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  136. 136

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  137. 137

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  138. 138

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  139. 139

    Adonoy, deliver us!

  140. 140

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  141. 141

The Chazzan repeats after the congregation:

  142. 142

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  143. 143

    in accordance with the greatness

  144. 144

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  145. 145

and as You forgave this people

  146. 146

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  147. 147

    And there it is said:

  148. 148

    The Congregation says:

  149. 149

    “And Adonoy said,

  150. 150

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  151. 151

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  152. 152

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  153. 153

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  154. 154

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  155. 155

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  156. 156

but because of Your great mercy.

  157. 157

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  158. 158

My Master, listen and take action,

  159. 159

    do not delay!

  160. 160

    For Your sake, my God,

  161. 161

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  162. 162

over Your city and over. Your people.
