‹›
  1. 1

[Israel] beloved1To God. as the wife of one’s youth,

  3. 3

    which You betrothed

  4. 4

    בְּרֹב־מֹהַר וְרֹב־טוֹבָה.

    with a great dowry and lavish gifts;

  5. 5

how she now sits in disgrace,

  6. 6

    abominated, ugly and forsaken.

  7. 7

    She2Israel. who was bedecked

  8. 8

    with precious ornaments,

  9. 9

with whom You made a covenant

  10. 10

    and stipulations;3To observe the Torah.

  11. 11

how she now goes from door to door4Like a poor beggar.

  12. 12

and sleeps among the stone heaps.

  13. 13

She who was garbed in linen and silks,

  14. 14

    she who was

  15. 15

    בְּכָל הָאָרֶץ מְהֻלָּלָה.

    praised throughout the world;

  16. 16

how she is now considered profaned,

  17. 17

to be mocked, humiliated and cursed.

  18. 18

She who was beautiful in her footsteps,5As she went up to the temple on the Pilgrimage Festivals.

  19. 19

upon whom Your wings were spread;6You protected her.

  20. 20

how her feet are now wounded

  21. 21

as she walks the mountains after her young.

  22. 22

    Please,

  23. 23

You Who are enthroned on the Cherubim,

  24. 24

    see how despite all this,

  25. 25

she has not turned to the arrogant [nations]

  26. 26

nor placed her trust on armed cavalry

  27. 27

    or on their soldiers,

  28. 28

but only in Your abundant mercy.

  29. 29

    For in Your abundant mercy

  30. 30

    we trust,

  31. 31

and on Your righteousness, we rely,

  32. 32

and for Your pardon, we hope,

  33. 33

and for Your deliverance, we yearn.

  34. 34

    You are a King

  35. 35

Who loves righteousness from of old,

  36. 36

Who passes over the iniquities of His people,

  37. 37

and removes the sins of those who fear Him.

  38. 38

You made a covenant with the Patriarchs,

  39. 39

    and will keep [Your] oath

  40. 40

    with their descendants.

  41. 41

    You are He Who descended

  42. 42

in the cloud of Your glory, on Mount Sinai,

  43. 43

and disclosed the ways of Your goodness

  44. 44

    to Moses, Your servant.

  45. 45

    The ways of Your kindliness,

  46. 46

    גִּלִּיתָ לוֹ,

    You revealed to him;

  47. 47

and You made known to him

  48. 48

that You are Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  49. 49

Slow to anger, Abounding in kindness,

  50. 50

    and full of beneficence,

  51. 51

    guiding the entire world

  52. 52

    with the quality of mercy.

  53. 53

    And so it is written:

  54. 54

    “And He said:

  55. 55

    ‘I will cause to pass

  56. 56

    all My goodness before you,

  57. 57

and I will proclaim the Name, Adonoy

  58. 58

    לְפָנֶיךָ.

    in your presence;

  59. 59

    I will be gracious

  60. 60

to whom I will be gracious,

  61. 61

    and I will be compassionate

  62. 62

to whom I will be compassionate.’”

  63. 63

You are Almighty, Slow to Anger,

  64. 64

Lord of Mercy, You are called,

  65. 65

and the way of repentance, You have taught us.

  66. 66

The greatness of Your mercy and kindliness,

  67. 67

remember this day and every day

  68. 68

for the descendants of Your loved ones.

  69. 69

    Turn to us with compassion

  70. 70

for You are the Lord of Mercy.

  71. 71

    With supplication and prayer

  72. 72

    we approach Your Presence,

  73. 73

    as You made known

  74. 74

to [Moses,] the modest one of old.

  75. 75

    From Your fierce anger turn,

  76. 76

as it is written in Your Torah.

  77. 77

In the shadow of Your wings,

  78. 78

may we be sheltered and lodged,

  79. 79

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  80. 80

“When Adonoy descended in the cloud.”

  81. 81

    Remove [our] transgression,

  82. 82

    and blot out [our] iniquity,

  83. 83

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  84. 84

“And He stood with him there.”

  85. 85

    Give ear to our cry

  86. 86

    and listen to our speech,

  87. 87

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  88. 88

“And He proclaimed the Name, Adonoy”

  89. 89

    And there it is said:

  90. 90

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  91. 91

“And Adonoy passed before him [Moses]

  92. 92

    and proclaimed:

  93. 93

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  94. 94

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  95. 95

    Slow to Anger,

  96. 96

and Abundant in Kindness and Truth.

  97. 97

    Keeper of kindness

  98. 98

    for thousands of generations,

  99. 99

    Endurer of iniquity and transgression,

  100. 100

    and sin,

  101. 101

And Acquitter of those who repent.”

  102. 102

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  103. 103

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  104. 104

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  105. 105

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  106. 106

    For You, my Master,

  107. 107

    are good and forgiving,

  108. 108

    and abounding in kindness

  109. 109

to all who call upon You.

  110. 110

There is none like You, Adonoy.

  111. 111

    You are great,

  112. 112

and Your Name is great in its might.

  113. 113

    God is known in Judah,

  114. 114

in Israel, His Name is great.

  115. 115

    Help us, Adonoy, our God,

  116. 116

    for upon You, we depend,

  117. 117

and in Your Name, do we come.

  118. 118

As Your Name, God, so is Your praise

  119. 119

    עַל־קַצְוֵי־אֶרֶץ

    to the ends of the earth;

  120. 120

Your hand is full of righteousness.

  121. 121

A tower of strength is the Name, Adonoy,

  122. 122

to Him rush the righteous and strong.

  123. 123

As a father has compassion on his children

  124. 124

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  125. 125

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  126. 126

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  127. 127

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  128. 128

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  129. 129

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  130. 130

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  131. 131

    Adonoy, deliver us!

  132. 132

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  133. 133

The Chazzan repeats after the congregation:

  134. 134

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  135. 135

    in accordance with the greatness

  136. 136

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  137. 137

and as You forgave this people

  138. 138

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  139. 139

    And there it is said:

  140. 140

    The Congregation says:

  141. 141

    “And Adonoy said,

  142. 142

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  143. 143

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  144. 144

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  145. 145

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  146. 146

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  147. 147

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  148. 148

but because of Your great mercy.

  149. 149

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  150. 150

My Master, listen and take action,

  151. 151

    do not delay!

  152. 152

    For Your sake, my God,

  153. 153

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  154. 154

over Your city and over Your people.
