Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Second Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 9

‹›
  1. 1

This prayer was composed by Rav Isaac Ibn Gyas.

  2. 2

In the early morning, I call upon You

  3. 3

    אֵל מְהֻלָּל.

    Almighty, Who is praised;

  4. 4

let the order of my prayer be sweet to You

  5. 5

    יוֹם לִבִּי לְךָ סוֹלָל.

    on this day when my heart exalts You;

  6. 6

    lighten my darkness

  7. 7

and may it be bright as the morning.

  8. 8

    My King and my God,

  9. 9

    to You I pray.

  10. 10

    My foes who anger You,

  11. 11

humiliate Your people in their rage.

  12. 12

I bear the fear of You

  13. 13

despite the tumult of Your adversaries.

  14. 14

Pour out Your wrath upon them

  15. 15

    וַחֲרוֹן אַף מִמְּרוֹמֶיךָ.

    and rage from Your Heavenly Dwelling;

  16. 16

and be jealous, Almighty, for Your Name

  17. 17

which has been profaned among the nations.

  18. 18

    My King and my God,

  19. 19

    to You I pray.

  20. 20

    O living One,

  21. 21

    רוֹכֵב עַל־עָב קַל.

    Who rides upon a swift cloud;

  22. 22

if You place me on a scale,

  23. 23

    צִדְקִי

    let my righteousness

  24. 24

be as heavy as the sand of the sea,

  25. 25

    וְרִשְׁעִי כְנוֹצָה יֵקַל.

    and my wickedness as light as a feather;

  26. 26

and if my path has been crooked,

  27. 27

and my sentence is [to be]

  28. 28

as that of an ox who is stoned to death,1An ox that killed a man was stoned to death.

  29. 29

then weigh me on the scale of grace,

  30. 30

for I am a man, wounded with transgressions.

  31. 31

    My King and my God,

  32. 32

    to You I pray.

  33. 33

Restore the Holy Ark and its staves,

  34. 34

    וְהַלְבֵּשׁ אַהֲרֹן מַדָּיו.

    and clothe Aaron in his [priestly] garments;

  35. 35

and they2Ishmael and Edom. that hunt with snares

  36. 36

shall eat the fruit of their labor,

  37. 37

and each of those who rebelled,

  38. 38

let tongues of flame consume their offspring,

  39. 39

and let them both3Ishmael and Edom. be discarded

  40. 40

    as dung is thrown out.

  41. 41

    My King and my God,

  42. 42

    to You I pray.

  43. 43

Holy One, Who is above all masters,

  44. 44

    Who judges all His creatures,

  45. 45

see how my quarrelsome adversary [Satan],

  46. 46

    speaks evil of me

  47. 47

and lifts his spear against me,

  48. 48

and his vengeful darts are cast at me.

  49. 49

Let my soul be rescued [from him]

  50. 50

O God who annuls and frustrates [evil] counsel.

  51. 51

    My King and my God,

  52. 52

    to You I pray.

  53. 53

    Almighty! King!

  54. 54

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  55. 55

    governs with kindness

  56. 56

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  57. 57

He removes their sins one by one,

  58. 58

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  59. 59

    and pardon to transgressors.

  60. 60

    Acting righteously

  61. 61

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  62. 62

    not according to their wickedness

  63. 63

    does He repay them.

  64. 64

    Almighty.

  65. 65

    You instructed us to recite

  66. 66

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  67. 67

    remember unto us this day

  68. 68

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  69. 69

    as You made them known

  70. 70

to the humble Moses of old,

  71. 71

    as it is written,

  72. 72

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  73. 73

    and stood with him there,

  74. 74

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  75. 75

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  76. 76

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  77. 77

    and proclaimed:

  78. 78

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  79. 79

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  80. 80

    Slow to Anger,

  81. 81

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  82. 82

    Keeper of kindness

  83. 83

    for thousands of generations,

  84. 84

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  85. 85

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  86. 86

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  87. 87

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  88. 88

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  89. 89

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  90. 90

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  91. 91

    “For You, my Master,

  92. 92

    are good and forgiving,

  93. 93

    and abounding in kindness

  94. 94

to all who call upon You.”

  95. 95

    אַל תִּזְכָּר לָנוּ עֲו‍ֹנוֹת רִאשׁוֹנִים.

    Remember not the sins of our ancestors;

  96. 96

let Your compassion come swiftly toward us,

  97. 97

for we have been brought very low.

  98. 98

The sins of our youth and our transgressions,

  99. 99

    אַל תִּזְכֹּר

    remember not;

  100. 100

    with Your kindliness remember us

  101. 101

for the sake of Your goodness, Adonoy.

  102. 102

    Remember Your mercies, Adonoy,

  103. 103

    and kindlinesses

  104. 104

for they are from the beginning of the world.

  105. 105

    Remember us Adonoy

  106. 106

    with favor for Your people

  107. 107

    recall us with Your deliverance.

  108. 108

    Remember Your congregation

  109. 109

which You have acquired of old,

  110. 110

    You have redeemed the tribe

  111. 111

    of Your inheritance,

  112. 112

this mountain of Zion where You have dwelled.

  113. 113

Remember, Adonoy, the affection of Jerusalem,

  114. 114

the love of Zion, forget not until eternity.

  115. 115

    Remember, Adonoy,

  116. 116

to the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem,

  117. 117

    [it was they] who said,

  118. 118

“Raze it, raze it to its very foundations.”

  119. 119

    You will arise

  120. 120

    and have compassion on Zion,

  121. 121

for it is time to be gracious to her,

  122. 122

for the appointed time has come.

  123. 123

    Remember Abraham, Isaac, Israel,

  124. 124

    Your servants,

  125. 125

to whom You swore by Your very Self,

  126. 126

    and You said to them:

  127. 127

    “I will multiply your seed

  128. 128

    כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמָֽיִם.

    as the stars of the heavens;

  129. 129

and all this land that I have promised,

  130. 130

I will give to your descendants,

  131. 131

and they will inherit it forever.”

  132. 132

    Remember Your servants,

  133. 133

    לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב.

    Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob;

  134. 134

do not regard the stubborness of this people,

  135. 135

or their wickedness, or their sin.

  136. 136

    Do not, we beseech You

  137. 137

    place upon us this sin,

  138. 138

wherein we have acted foolishly and sinned.

  139. 139

    חָטָֽאנוּ צוּרֵֽנוּ

    We have sinned, our Rock;

  140. 140

    pardon us our Creator.
