Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Second Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 3

‹›
  1. 1

To You, we pour out our hearts and souls

  3. 3

    like water,

  4. 4

all of us—to the Almighty in heaven.

  5. 5

Come, you old, with your young,

  6. 6

    cleanse yourselves,

  7. 7

    and remove your sinfulness.

  8. 8

    Let us multiply before Him

  9. 9

    [our] supplication and prayer,

  10. 10

and this we ask of our God:

  11. 11

    That the good [inclination]

  12. 12

    prevail over the corrupt [one],

  13. 13

    that he forsake his way—

  14. 14

    the transgressor and evildoer.

  15. 15

Prepare your heart and amend your thoughts

  16. 16

for great is the power of repentance.

  17. 17

    In the assembly of people

  18. 18

let us multiply words [of prayer]

  19. 19

and the mighty God will not abhor them.

  20. 20

He desires the return of the corrupt sinner,

  21. 21

to save his soul from destruction [Gehinnom].

  22. 22

    Hear [our] supplication

  23. 23

and accept those who beseech You,

  24. 24

as we lift up our hands

  25. 25

    toward Your Holy Dwelling.

  26. 26

May the words of our mouth

  27. 27

    be acceptable [before You],

  28. 28

    and atone our sins,

  29. 29

both the involuntary and the intentional.

  30. 30

    Consider and remember

  31. 31

the call of Your pleasant ones,

  32. 32

and relent of the evil against Your people.

  33. 33

Grant the desire of Your servants,

  34. 34

and let them delight in Your comfort.

  35. 35

    They rely on Your kindliness

  36. 36

    and trust in Your compassion.

  37. 37

    For in Your abundant mercy

  38. 38

    we trust,

  39. 39

and on Your righteousness, we rely,

  40. 40

and for Your pardon, we hope,

  41. 41

and for Your deliverance, we yearn.

  42. 42

    You are a King

  43. 43

Who loves righteousness from of old,

  44. 44

Who passes over the iniquities of His people,

  45. 45

and removes the sins of those who fear Him.

  46. 46

You made a covenant with the Patriarchs,

  47. 47

    and will keep [Your] oath

  48. 48

    with their descendants.

  49. 49

    You are He Who descended

  50. 50

in the cloud of Your glory, on Mount Sinai,

  51. 51

and disclosed the ways of Your goodness

  52. 52

    to Moses, Your servant.

  53. 53

    The ways of Your kindliness,

  54. 54

    גִּלִּיתָ לוֹ,

    You revealed to him;

  55. 55

and You made known to him

  56. 56

that You are Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  57. 57

Slow to anger, Abounding in kindness,

  58. 58

    and full of beneficence,

  59. 59

    guiding the entire world

  60. 60

    with the quality of mercy.

  61. 61

    And so it is written:

  62. 62

    “And He said:

  63. 63

    ‘I will cause to pass

  64. 64

    all My goodness before you,

  65. 65

and I will proclaim the Name, Adonoy

  66. 66

    לְפָנֶיךָ.

    in your presence;

  67. 67

    I will be gracious

  68. 68

to whom I will be gracious,

  69. 69

    and I will be compassionate

  70. 70

to whom I will be compassionate.’”

  71. 71

You are Almighty, Slow to Anger,

  72. 72

Lord of Mercy, You are called,

  73. 73

and the way of repentance, You have taught us.

  74. 74

The greatness of Your mercy and kindliness,

  75. 75

remember this day and every day

  76. 76

for the descendants of Your loved ones.

  77. 77

    Turn to us with compassion

  78. 78

for You are the Lord of Mercy.

  79. 79

    With supplication and prayer

  80. 80

    we approach Your Presence,

  81. 81

    as You made known

  82. 82

to [Moses,] the modest one of old.

  83. 83

    From Your fierce anger turn,

  84. 84

as it is written in Your Torah.

  85. 85

In the shadow of Your wings,

  86. 86

may we be sheltered and lodged,

  87. 87

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  88. 88

“When Adonoy descended in the cloud.”

  89. 89

    Remove [our] transgression,

  90. 90

    and blot out [our] iniquity,

  91. 91

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  92. 92

“And He stood with him there.”

  93. 93

    Give ear to our cry

  94. 94

    and listen to our speech,

  95. 95

as on the day [of which it is said:]

  96. 96

“And He proclaimed the Name, Adonoy”

  97. 97

    And there it is said:

  98. 98

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  99. 99

“And Adonoy passed before him [Moses]

  100. 100

    and proclaimed:

  101. 101

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  102. 102

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  103. 103

    Slow to Anger,

  104. 104

and Abundant in Kindness and Truth.

  105. 105

    Keeper of kindness

  106. 106

    for thousands of generations,

  107. 107

    Endurer of iniquity and transgression,

  108. 108

    and sin,

  109. 109

And Acquitter of those who repent.”

  110. 110

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  111. 111

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  112. 112

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  113. 113

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  114. 114

    For You, my Master,

  115. 115

    are good and forgiving,

  116. 116

    and abounding in kindness

  117. 117

to all who call upon You.

  118. 118

Israel will be delivered by Adonoy

  119. 119

    תְּשׁוּעַת עוֹלָמִים

    for an everlasting deliverance;

  120. 120

she will not be ashamed or humiliated

  121. 121

    for all eternity.

  122. 122

The hope of Israel is Adonoy,

  123. 123

their deliverer in time of affliction.

  124. 124

    Hope of Israel, Adonoy,

  125. 125

all who forsake You, will be humiliated.

  126. 126

“And there is hope in your destiny

  127. 127

    says Adonoy,

  128. 128

“[Your] children will return to their borders.”

  129. 129

I hoped continually for Adonoy’s [help],

  130. 130

and He turned to me and heard my cry.

  131. 131

    Righteousness is Yours, my Master,

  132. 132

    and the shame is ours

  133. 133

    to this very day.

  134. 134

Do good, as You see fit, to Zion

  135. 135

may You rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

  136. 136

As a father has compassion on his children

  137. 137

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  138. 138

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  139. 139

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  140. 140

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  141. 141

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  142. 142

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  143. 143

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  144. 144

    Adonoy, deliver us!

  145. 145

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  146. 146

The Chazzan repeats after the congregation:

  147. 147

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  148. 148

    in accordance with the greatness

  149. 149

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  150. 150

and as You forgave this people

  151. 151

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  152. 152

    And there it is said.

  153. 153

    The Congregation says:

  154. 154

    “And Adonoy said,

  155. 155

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  156. 156

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  157. 157

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  158. 158

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  159. 159

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  160. 160

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  161. 161

but because of Your great mercy.

  162. 162

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  163. 163

My Master, listen and take action,

  164. 164

    do not delay!

  165. 165

    For Your sake, my God,

  166. 166

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  167. 167

over Your city and over Your people.
