As far as the issur of acceptance of rechiluth is concerned, its din is like that of lashon hara (viz. Part One, Principle VIII, sections 2 and 4). Therefore, one should take great care not to accept rechiluth from anyone, even his wife. And when we look into this, we find that in accepting rechiluth from his wife in her saying that Ploni spoke thus and thus about him, aside from the sin itself of acceptance of rechiluth, he brings many troubles upon himself. For when she sees that her husband accepts the words graciously, she will always relate such things to him, and bring him thereby to strife, contention, and dejection. Therefore, it is fitting that "a man of spirit" rebuke his wife when she tells him such things.
