יברכך ה' וישמרך וגו' וישם לך שלום. אמר הרב הקדוש איש אלוהיי וכו' הבעל שם טוב ז"ל נשמתו בגנזי מרומים (במשנה סוף מס' עוקצין) לא מצא הקדוש ברוך הוא כלי מחזיק ברכה אלא השלום, דהיינו דהשלום הוא הכלי, והברכה הוא הפנימיות, כי אם אין חלונות סגורים בבית, והבית פרוץ למה לי עשרו, הלא גנבים יגנבו דים, ושודדי לילה יבואו עליו, אמנם כשהוא שלם ונשמר מגנבים ולסטים, עושר שמור לבעליו, הרי שעיקר הוא השלום, והוא הוא הכלי שעל ידו יתחזק ויתקיים הברכה והעושר: (שפתי צדיקים פ' אמור).
And God spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying: Like this you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “May God bless you and keep watch over you. May God shine His face upon you and be gracious to you. May God lift His countenance to you, and grant you peace.” (ibid. 6:22-26). Rabbi Shimon ben Chalafta said: G‑d found no other vessel to hold blessing than peace, as it says: “G‑d will give strength to His people; G‑d will bless His people with peace” (Psalms 29:11).9Mishnayos, Uktzin 3:12. Peace is the vessel and blessing is its content. For if the windows of a house are wide open, what good is wealth. Thieves will steal in by day, and burglers by night. However, when there is peace and one is protected from thieves, then “wealth protects its owner” (Ecclesiastes 5:12). For the main thing is peace.
