שמעתי ממורי שיש בר"ת אמר אויב ארדוף ה' אלפין ודפח"ח, והיינו שהאויב יודע שעושה רצון אלופו של עולם, מה שאין כן אם מכוון להנאת עצמו תמלאמו נפשי כמו שתרגם אונקלוס תשבע מנהון נפשי, לכך נענש נשפת ברוחך וגו': (תוי"י סו"פ תצא דר"ב ע"ב).
This applies when the enemy knows that they are doing the will of G‑d,5I.e., then G‑d’s name is with them. but when they act only to fill their desires – “my lust shall be satisfy upon them” –they receive punishment: “You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters” (ibid. 15:10).
