In Egypt, the dibur was in exile, thus the Jewish people did not have the power to connect to G‑d through words of prayer. Likewise, the Shechinah, representing the Divine speech, was concealed. The process of the exodus entailed returning the power of speech to the nation, which culminated in the Song of the Red Sea. Thus, when a person’s Da’as is in exile in the evil inclination, which is the force of constriction,5The word for Egypt, Mitzrayim, is from the word metzer, which means a narrow place, and the force of limitation. he is in the Egyptian exile.
