Regarding that which the sages of France decreed, that cheese can be eaten after meat in the same meal, if one washes their hands and cleans out their mouth1This is the opinion of Rabbeinu Tam cited in Tosafot on Chullin 104b:12. Halakhot Gedolot 1:116 holds likewise. - is this correct, or is the halacha like the sage who forbids such things?2The reference seems to be to R. Isaac Alfasi, see Rif Chullin 37b:4 . R. Zerachia Halevi (Hamaor Hakatan on Chullin 37a) understands the Rif differently, and also rules that washing hands and cleaning the mouth is sufficient, and writes that "this is the practice of all the sages of France."

They responded [in my dream]: "You are not wise to ask such a question," (Kohelet 7:10) "for the ways of the Lord are upright, the righteous will walk their paths, and the wicked shall stumble" (Hosea 14:10), "Have I not written it three times?" (Proverbs 22:20) "Incline after the many" (Exodus 23:2) - and the majority today forbid such things. In the Heavenly Yeshiva, there is no dispute on this subject, and we all rule that this is forbidden.
