‹›
  1. 1

This prayer was composed by Rav Shlomo Habavli.

  2. 2

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

    Again be compassionate with us,

  4. 4

bring back our exiles as You promised,

  5. 5

    renew again as of old

  6. 6

    Your love for Your people.

  7. 7

    Remove anger

  8. 8

    and quickly quiet Your vexation.

  9. 9

    Turn from Your fierce anger

  10. 10

and let Your mind be changed

  11. 11

concerning the evil intended for Your people.

  12. 12

Gather and seek the lost ones,1Israel.

  13. 13

    and strengthen Your inheritance—2Israel.

  14. 14

    [Your] sheep that are slaughtered

  15. 15

    and shorn for fearing You.

  16. 16

If the transgressions are too numerous

  17. 17

among those who crave Your forgiveness,

  18. 18

turn [from Your anger] for the sake of

  19. 19

Your servants, the tribes of Your heritage.

  20. 20

    The iniquity of our fathers

  21. 21

    has burdened us [with exile]

  22. 22

and we have to taste the sour grapes;3See Jeremiah 31:29. I.e. the punishment of their sins.

  23. 23

we were made to drink the cup of poison,

  24. 24

    bitterness and wrath.

  25. 25

As in the days when You dwelt among us,

  26. 26

    and made our lives sweet,

  27. 27

return to us, O God of our deliverance,

  28. 28

and annul Your anger toward us.

  29. 29

    You have not totally rejected

  30. 30

those who take refuge in You

  31. 31

    מְעִידֶיךָ.

    and testify to Your Oneness;

  32. 32

they have been punished for their sins,

  33. 33

and look to You to be healed.

  34. 34

    Appease Your anger

  35. 35

    in accordance with righteous practice.

  36. 36

Turn [from Your anger] Adonoy, how long?

  37. 37

and change Your mind about Your servants.

  38. 38

    Daily we yearn

  39. 39

for the revelation of Your secret4The coming of Moshiach.

  40. 40

    which is sealed and hidden,

  41. 41

    וּבָלָה בְּשַֹר חֲסִידֶיךָ.

    [while] Your pious ones waste away [in exile];

  42. 42

    humiliation breaks our hearts

  43. 43

as we wait for Your graciousness.

  44. 44

    Return Adonoy, free our souls,

  45. 45

deliver us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.

  46. 46

    We are forsaken

  47. 47

    and counted with them

  48. 48

that go down into the grave,

  49. 49

    into mourning has been turned

  50. 50

    כִּנּוֹר וְשִׁיר וְעֻגָּב.

    [our] harp, and song, and flute;

  51. 51

    those who mourn with tears,

  52. 52

    will walk proudly with thanksgiving.

  53. 53

    Adonoy! Bring back our exiles

  54. 54

    like springs in the desert.

  55. 55

    Tears are the food

  56. 56

of those who trust in You,

  57. 57

    צוּרִי אֵל.

    O my Rock [Who is] Almighty;

  58. 58

    “Where is the Redeemer?”

  59. 59

    the Almighty’s adversaries ask scornfully.

  60. 60

As You appeared then in a vision,

  61. 61

as You spoke to the righteous [prophets]—

  62. 62

    שׁוּבָה יְהֹוָה

    return [now] Adonoy

  63. 63

to the thousand myriads of Israel.

  64. 64

    Hear Adonoy,

  65. 65

    incline Your ear and listen

  66. 66

to those who plead, “Please forgive,”

  67. 67

    reply, “I have forgiven.”

  68. 68

Even though our sins are numerous,

  69. 69

    You open the door saying.

  70. 70

    “Return O Israel.”

  71. 71

Cause us to return to You, Adonoy,

  72. 72

    and we shall return.

  73. 73

    Almighty! King!

  74. 74

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  75. 75

    governs with kindness

  76. 76

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  77. 77

He removes their sins one by one,

  78. 78

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  79. 79

    and pardon to transgressors.

  80. 80

    Acting righteously

  81. 81

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  82. 82

    not according to their wickedness

  83. 83

    does He repay them.

  84. 84

    Almighty!

  85. 85

    You instructed us to recite

  86. 86

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  87. 87

    remember unto us this day

  88. 88

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  89. 89

    as You made them known

  90. 90

to the humble Moses of old,

  91. 91

    as it is written,

  92. 92

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  93. 93

    and stood with him there,

  94. 94

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  95. 95

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  96. 96

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses],

  97. 97

    and proclaimed:

  98. 98

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  99. 99

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  100. 100

    Slow to Anger,

  101. 101

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  102. 102

    Keeper of kindness

  103. 103

    for thousands of generations,

  104. 104

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  105. 105

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  106. 106

and Acquitter of those who repent.

  107. 107

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  108. 108

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  109. 109

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  110. 110

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  111. 111

    “For You, my Master,

  112. 112

    are good and forgiving,

  113. 113

    and abounding in kindness

  114. 114

to all who call upon You.”

  115. 115

    Return Adonoy, free our souls,

  116. 116

and deliver us for the sake of Your kindliness.

  117. 117

Return, return, You have said to us,

  118. 118

    regarding repentance,

  119. 119

from the very beginning of creation

  120. 120

    You promised to accept it.

  121. 121

    The correct offering to God

  122. 122

    is a broken spirit,

  123. 123

    a broken and humbled heart,

  124. 124

    God will not despise.

  125. 125

    Let come before You

  126. 126

the groaning of the prisoner [of sin],

  127. 127

according to the greatness of Your power

  128. 128

set free those condemned to die.

  129. 129

    Grant truth to Jacob,

  130. 130

    kindliness to Abraham,

  131. 131

as You have sworn to our fathers

  132. 132

    from the days of old.

  133. 133

As a father has compassion on his children

  134. 134

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  135. 135

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  136. 136

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  137. 137

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  138. 138

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  139. 139

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  140. 140

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  141. 141

    יְהֹוָה הוֹשִֽׁיעָה,

    Adonoy, deliver us;

  142. 142

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  143. 143

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  144. 144

    in accordance with the greatness

  145. 145

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  146. 146

and as You forgave this people

  147. 147

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  148. 148

    And there it is said:

  149. 149

    “And Adonoy said,

  150. 150

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  151. 151

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  152. 152

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  153. 153

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  154. 154

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  155. 155

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  156. 156

but because of Your great mercy.

  157. 157

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  158. 158

My Master, listen and take action,

  159. 159

    do not delay!

  160. 160

    For Your sake, my God,

  161. 161

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  162. 162

over Your city and over Your people.
