Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Fifth Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 11

‹›
  1. 1

This prayer was composed by Rabbi Gershom ben Yehudah (the Light of the Exile).

  2. 2

    Remember the covenant of Abraham

  3. 3

    and the binding of Isaac,

  4. 4

    and return the captives

  5. 5

    of the tents of Jacob

  6. 6

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  7. 7

We lost the good land all too soon,

  8. 8

    אָרְכוּ הַיָּמִים וּדְבַר כָּל־חָזוֹן.

    and the prophesied exile has lasted very long;

  9. 9

in Israel, they no longer live in open villages,

  10. 10

our plenty has been turned into famine.

  11. 11

    Turn with compassion

  12. 12

    to the remnant of Israel,

  13. 13

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  14. 14

    Exile after exile,

  15. 15

has all of Judah been exiled,

  16. 16

grief and destruction is her lot each day,

  17. 17

and there is none to inquire or plead for her.

  18. 18

    Return the captives

  19. 19

    of the tents of Jacob

  20. 20

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  21. 21

The city of holiness and its environs

  22. 22

    הָיוּ לְחֶרְפָּה וּלְבִזּוֹת.

    had become disgraced and plundered;

  23. 23

all its treasures are buried and hidden,

  24. 24

and nothing remains except this Torah.

  25. 25

    Turn with compassion

  26. 26

    to the remnant of Israel,

  27. 27

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  28. 28

Mighty Redeemer, for Your sake redeem us,

  29. 29

    see how helpless we are,

  30. 30

look, our pious men are gone,

  31. 31

and we have none to intercede for us.

  32. 32

    Return the captives

  33. 33

    of the tents of Jacob

  34. 34

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  35. 35

    The covenant with the Patriarchs

  36. 36

    the Matriarchs

  37. 37

    and the [twelve] tribes,

  38. 38

    Your oft-repeated mercy and kindness—

  39. 39

    remember [now] O God

  40. 40

to those who are stricken and tortured,

  41. 41

and for Your sake [they are ready]

  42. 42

to be killed all the day.

  43. 43

    Turn with compassion

  44. 44

    to the remnant of Israel,

  45. 45

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  46. 46

    You Who avenge [innocent] blood,

  47. 47

    judge our cause,

  48. 48

    repay [punish] sevenfold

  49. 49

    אֶל־חֵיק־מְעַנֵּינוּ.

    into the bosom of those who torment us;

  50. 50

we have been sold for naught,

  51. 51

[therefore] redeem us without [ransom] money,

  52. 52

raise up Your ruined, Holy Temple,

  53. 53

    before our [very] eyes,

  54. 54

    and return the captives

  55. 55

    of the tents of Jacob

  56. 56

and deliver us for the sake of Your Name.

  57. 57

Remember to us the covenant of the ancestors,

  58. 58

    as You promised,

  59. 59

“And I will remember for their sake,

  60. 60

    the covenant with their ancestors,

  61. 61

    whom I brought out

  62. 62

    of the land of Egypt,

  63. 63

    לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִם

    in the sight of the nations;

  64. 64

    to be their God

  65. 65

    I am Adonoy.”
