    אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ

    Our God and God of our fathers!

    אֶזְרָחִי הֵעִיר מִמִּזְרָח בְּרַגְלוֹ צֶדֶק זָרַח. גִּבּוֹר לָרוּץ אֹרַח. דָּגוּל כְּשׁוֹשָׁן פָּרַח:

    You inspired Abraham to leave the east.1God inspired Abraham who was called Ezrachi to leave his birth place in the east and go to Eretz Yisroel. Wherever he traveled, righteousness shone,2Abraham caused the. righteousness of God to be accepted. like a warrior, he ran the path of uprightness, from him sprouted the banner[s] like a rose.3A reference to the Twelve Tribes.

    הוּא אַבְרָהָם הוּעַד. וְצִדְקָתוֹ עוֹמֶדֶת לָעַד. זֶרַע לְמֵאָה נִסְעַד. חוֹנֵן צַדִּיק וְסָעַד:

    He was destined to be called Abraham,4His given name was Avrom. and his righteousness endures forever. To have a son at a hundred years was he strengthened, God is gracious to the righteous, and is their support.

    טַכְסִיסֵי מַלְכוּת לָמַד. יָעַץ נְדִיבוֹת וְלִמַּד. כַּזָּהָב מְזֻקָּק וְנֶחְמָד לְעֶשֶׂר נֻסָּה וְעָמָד:

    He taught5The people of his time. the order of God’s kingdom, he advised them to be generous and hospitable, as refined precious gold did he emerge from the ten trials that he withstood.

    מוֹרִיָּה יְחִידוֹ הֶעֱלָה. הִצְטַוָּה מִנְּשִׂיאִים לְמַעֲלָה. סַנְסִינוֹ כְּגָדִישׁ עוֹלֶה. עָקוּד כְּכֶבֶשׂ וְטָלֶה:

    To Moriah, he brought up, his only son, as he was commanded from above the clouds,6From God Who dwells above the clouds. his branch7Isaac. he prepared as a burnt-offering, he bound him as a sheep and lamb.

    פִּקּוּד כְּשׁוּרָה שָׁמַר. צִפְצֵף וּבְלֵב גָּמַר. קַחַת בְּלֵב תָּמָר. רִצּוּיוֹ כְּנִיחוֹחַ לִתְמָר:

    He kept God’s precept properly, in word and in thought he was determined, he took him [Isaac] with his whole heart, that he be accepted as a pleasant offering.

    שָׁבוּ יַחְדָּו שְׁנֵיהֶם. עֲשׂוֹת רְצוֹן קוֹנֵיהֶם תִּזְכֹּר מִנְחַת דִּשְׁנֵיהֶם. אַחֲרֵיהֶם לִבְנֵי בְנֵיהֶם:

    They returned together, the two of them, having done the will of their Possessor. Recall [O God] the present of their ashes8Their willingness that Isaac be burned on the Altar. to their children’s children after them.

    תָּרִיחַ קְטֹרֶת מַתְכֻּנְתָּם. תֶּעֱרַב תְּכוּנַת עֲמִידָתָם. תִּסְתַּכֵּל חֲקִיקַת תָּם תְּרַחֵם עַל שְׁאֵרִיתָם:

    Accept their prayer as incense offerings, and may their standing [before You] be sweet. Behold the engraving of the perfect one9Jacob whose image is engraved on the Divine throne. and have mercy on their remnant.

    אֵל מֶֽלֶךְ. יוֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא רַחֲמִים. מִתְנַהֵג בַּחֲסִידוּת. מוֹחֵל עֲו‍ֹנוֹת עַמּוֹ. מַעֲבִיר רִאשׁוֹן רִאשׁוֹן. מַרְבֶּה מְחִילָה לְחַטָּאִים וּסְלִיחָה לְפוֹשְׁעִים. עוֹשֶׂה צְדָקוֹת עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ. לֹא כְרָעָתָם תִּגְמוֹל: אֵל הוֹרֵיתָ לָנוּ לוֹמַר שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה. וּזְכָר לָֽנוּ הַיּוֹם בְּרִית שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה. כְּמוֹ שֶׁהוֹדַֽעְתָּ לֶעָנָו מִקֶּֽדֶם. כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב וַיֵּרֶד יְהֹוָה בֶּֽעָנָן וַיִּתְיַצֵּב עִמּוֹ שָׁם וַיִּקְרָא בְשֵׁם יְהֹוָה:

    Almighty! King! Who sits on the throne of mercy, governs with kindness forgives the iniquities of His people. He removes their sins one by one, increasing forgiveness to sinners, and pardon to transgressors. Acting righteously with all who are of flesh and spirit; not according to their wickedness does He repay them. Almighty! You instructed us to recite the thirteen Divine attributes; remember unto us this day the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes, as You made them known to the humble Moses of old, as it is written, “And Adonoy descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו וַיִּקְרָא:

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses]; and proclaimed:

    יְהֹוָה יְהֹוָה אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן אֶֽרֶךְ אַפַּֽיִם וְרַב חֶֽסֶד וֶֽאֱמֶת: נֹצֵר חֶֽסֶד לָאֲלָפִים נֹשֵׂא עָו‍ֹן וָפֶֽשַׁע וְחַטָּאָה וְנַקֵּה: וְסָלַחְתָּ לַעֲו‍ֹנֵֽנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵֽנוּ וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ:

    Adonoy, Adonoy, Almighty, Merciful, Gracious, Slow to Anger, and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth. Keeper of kindness for thousands of generations, Endurer of iniquity, and transgression, and sin; and Acquitter of those who repent.” “And pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Your inheritance.”

    סְלַח לָֽנוּ אָבִֽינוּ כִּי חָטָֽאנוּ. מְחַל לָֽנוּ מַלְכֵּֽנוּ כִּי פָשָֽׁעְנוּ: כִּי אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי טוֹב וְסַלָּח וְרַב חֶֽסֶד לְכָל קֹרְאֶֽיךָ:

    Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned, forgive us our King, for we have transgressed. “For You, my Master, are good and forgiving, and abounding in kindness to all who call upon You.”
