AND THOU SHALT MAKE THE BOARDS FOR THE TABERNACLE OF SHITTIM WOOD STANDING. Of the Seraphim also it says that they were “standing”; thus the boards of the Tabernacle corresponded to the Seraphim.
It may be asked, Do not all the heavenly Hosts stand? Is it not written, “And I shall give thee walks among these (angels) that stand by” (Zech. 3, 7)? “And all the hosts of heaven were standing” (I Kings 22, 19)-because they have no joints?’1Cf. Bereshith Rabbah, 65. It is indeed so, but the angels are sometimes called “Seraphim”, and sometimes by other names, this name being applied to them all.1i.e. as explained by Mikdash Melech. when they perform the office of Seraphim (lit. burning ones).
