Zohar · Chayei Sara, Chapter 2

‹›
  1. 1

    1. "And the life of Sarah shall be… the body of the Mishnah—we were close; we heard a voice turning from above to below, spreading through the world lightly, breaking mountains and shattering mighty furnaces. Great whirlwinds rise, ears are opened." This passage uses vivid imagery to describe a divine or cosmic event—possibly the revelation or transmission of Torah or spiritual energy—moving from the upper realms to the lower, with powerful effects on creation. If you'd like, I can help unpack the symbolism or connect it to broader themes in Midrash or Kabbalah.

  2. 2

    2. He said in his utterance: a thorn, a piercing thorn from here, from the right side—teeth in their holes stand firm in their existence. The King who speaks (and they were not removed, they were found) guards the gates of the dominion. With great awe, she stands in her existence.

  3. 3

    3. None of them sense or know that the scribe has opened and in the Name I will write; and a likeness stands and takes account, and those who dwell in dust are cast outside, and it is better to draw near to be counted among them—do not desire the cycle and reversal.

  4. 4

    4. They have fallen and do not stand; the guilty have been erased from the book of likeness—who will demand justice for them, and who will sit in judgment over their account? Woe to them, woe to their lives, woe to their awareness (or: to their souls). Because of them it is said (Psalms 69:29): “Let them be blotted out from the book of life…”
