And on the eighth day of Atzeret (solemn gathering) - one bull, one ram. Behold, the master of our Mishnah established it to be about a king that invited guests. After he sent them away, he said to those members of his household, "You and I shall make a small banquet." So what is an atzeret? It is like you say (I Samuel 9:17), "this one will rule (yaatzor) over My people." So aatzar is only monarchy. From the side of the supernal Divine Presence He makes a great banquet; from the side of Kingship (Malkhut), a small banquet. And Israel is accustomed to be joyful with him, so it is called Simchat Torah. And we crown the Torah scroll with its crown, a hint that the Torah scroll is Splendor (Tiferet). The Divine Presence is crowned with splendor

אָמַר רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, אַבָּא, אֲמַאי מִסִּטְרָא דְּאִמָּא עִלָּאָה, זַמִּין לְכָל מְמָנָן דְּכָל אוּמִין, וּמִסִּטְרָא דִּשְׁכִינְתָּא תַּתָּאָה, לָא זַמִּין אֶלָּא לְאוּמָה יְחִידָה, לָקֳבֵל פַּר יְחִידָא.
אָמַר לֵיהּ בְּרִי, שַׁפִּיר שְׁאִילַת. בְּגִין דְּמַלְכוּת אִיהִי רְמִיזָא לִבְרַתָּא, דְּאִיהִי צְנוּעָה בְּבֵית אָבִיהָ וְאִמָּהּ. וְאִיהִי אֲרוּסָה וְלָא נְשׂוּאָה. לָאו אוֹרַח אַרְעָא, לְמֵיכַל עִם אוֹשְׁפִּיזִין. אֲבָל אִימָּא דְּהִיא נְשׂוּאָה, אוֹרַח אַרְעָא אִיהוּ (למיכל עם אורחי) בָּתַר דִּמַזְמִּין בַּעְלָהּ אוֹשְׁפִּיזֵי, לְמֵיכַל עַל פָּתוֹרָא עִם בַּעְלָהּ. וְאִי אִינּוּן אוּשְׁפִּיזִין נֻכְרָאִין, לָא אַכְלֵי עִמְּהוֹן, לָא אַבָּא, וְלָא אִמָּא, וְכָל שֶׁכֵּן בְּרַתָּא. וּבְגִין כַּךְ בִּסְעוּדָתָא דְּשִׁבְעִין מְמָנָן, לָא אִשְׁתְּתַּף לְמֵיכַל עִמְּהוֹן, חַד מִן מָארֵי מַלְכָּא, בְּגִין דְּאִינּוּן נוּכְרָאִין. אָמַר לֵיהּ ודַּאי כְּעַן אִתְיַישְּׁבַת מִלָּה בְּלִבָּאִי, עַל בּוּרְיֵיהּ.
