נהר יז - במיני המיתה בחו"ל וארץ ישראל:

הענין שהם ג' מינים בסוד המיתה, הא' היא שחיטה בסכין פגום והוא נבלה, והיינו המתים על ידי סמא"ל שהיא סכין פגום שהפגימות הם אוגר"ת ומסוכסכת. אמנם המתים בארץ ישראל אינם מתים על ידי סכין שיש בה א' מאלו המדות הנזכרים, אלא על ידי החרב של הקדוש ברוך הוא, והם עמי הארץ שהם כבהמות, על ידי סכין ועל ידי שחיטה, דהיינו צער המיתה הם מתכפרים ונתרים בסוד וכפר אדמתו עמו, אמנם הם מתים על ידי מלאך כשר שעולה ונוטל רשות ונוטל נשמה כנחש, ולא נחש ממש מה שאין כן בחו"ל שהוא ממש נחש. אמנם תלמידי חכמים שהם עוסקים בתורת י"י שהיא עץ החיים אינם צריכים שחיטה על ידי שום א' מג' מיני סכינים הנזכרים שהם ב' פגומים וא' כשר כנזכר, אלא על ידי אסיפה כדגי הים, דהיינו שהשכינה מתגלית עליהם בסיעת כל הצדיקים שבגן עדן, והוא גווע עצמו מהגשמיות והחומר ומתאסף אל עמו עם השכינה, ואסיפתן אל כבוד י"י מתרת אותם, וענין (אסיפה כדגי) הים היינו ים התורה ואסיפתן מן הים דהיינו דפסיקי גירסא מפומייהו מיד מתים, כענין רבה ודוד וכיוצא כנזכר במסכת מועד קטן, וזמש"ל:
There are three types of death according to the secret of death. The first type is slaughter with a defective knife, which is considered "neveilah" (carrion). This refers to those who die at the hands of Samael, whose knife is defective due to the defects of cruelty and chaos. However, those who die in the Land of Israel do not die by a knife with any of these defects, but rather by the sword of the Holy One, blessed be He. The common people, who are like animals, die through a knife and slaughter, meaning that the suffering of death atones for them and purifies them, in the sense of "And His land will atone for His people." They die through a kosher angel who ascends, takes permission, and then takes the soul like a snake, but not an actual snake, unlike in the Diaspora where it is an actual snake. However, Torah scholars who engage in the Torah of the Lord, which is the Tree of Life, do not require slaughter by any of the three types of knives mentioned (two defective and one kosher). Instead, they are gathered like the fish of the sea. The Shechinah (Divine Presence) reveals itself to them with the help of all the righteous in the Garden of Eden, and they separate themselves from physicality and materialism, joining their people with the Shechinah. Their gathering to the glory of the Lord purifies them. The concept of being gathered like the fish of the sea refers to the sea of Torah, and their gathering from the sea means that when they cease their study, they immediately die, as in the cases of Rabba and King David mentioned in Tractate Moed Katan.
