  1. 1

“And the open space of the city will be 250 [measuring rods] in the north, 250 [measuring rods] in the south, 250 [measuring rods] in the east, and 250 [measuring rods] in the west.”1Yechezkel 48:17. The additions are taken from Rashi’s commentary. The city itself covers an area of 4500 measuring rods by 5000 measuring rods. With its empty space, the city is a square, 5000 measuring rods by 5000 measuring rods.2For the addition of 250 measuring rods on the east and the west creates a square of 5000 measuring rods. The open space fills the width of the strip of land in which the city is located.
