‹›
  1. 1

“And He brought me to the Northern Gate. He measured [the gate] according to those measures.1I.e., the gate was the same size of the Outer Courtyard gate. It had cells, pillars, and vestibules, and there were windows in it all around. It was 50 cubits high2As mentioned above (sec. 3), although the term ארך usually means “long,” here it means “high.” and 25 cubits wide.”3Yechezkel 40:35-36. These verses teach us that there were 25 cubits between the edge of the cell on one side and the edge of the cell opposite it. “Its vestibules were toward” – i.e., projected into – “the Outer Courtyard. There were palm-like coronets on its pillars, and its stairway had eight steps.”4Ibid.:37.
