I1In Yechezkel’s vision (see Yechezkel 40:20), the angel proceeded from the eastern gate to the northern gate. Hence, Tosafos Yom Tov follows that pattern in this text. already wrote above2Sec. 1. that the northern and southern walls of the outer courtyard were 317 cubits long. More details concerning these walls are discussed in sec. 74. It is logical to assume that these walls were a measuring rod (i.e. 6 cubits) thick, because the dimensions of this gateway are the same as the dimensions of the first gateway. The text relates that the first gateway’s threshold covered the thickness of the wall, and was 6 cubits thick.
