מעשה בחכם אחד שצוה לבנו שלא יהנה יותר מדאי מן העולם ושלא יעברו עליו יותר משלשים יום בלא תענית וכשמת הוציאוהו מקברו והכוהו ונצטערו מאד על הדבר ובא בחלום בלילה לאחד ואמר לו מפני שכשהייתי רואה ספרים נמחקים קרועים עם דפי ספרים לא הייתי קושרם יחד ומצניעם:
It happened with a certain pious man who commanded his son not to enjoy this world more than necessary and that thirty days should not pass without a fast. When he died he was disinterred and flogged and people grieved deeply because of this. He appeared to an individual in a dream of night and said, “This befell me because I used to see tattered books with torn leaves and I did not assemble them and hide them.”
