שנו חכמים העושה מלאכה בערבי שבתות ובערבי י"ט ובמוצאי שבתות ובמוצאי י"ט ובחנוכה ופורים ובראש חודש ובכל מקום שיש נידנוד עבירה להביא תענית צבור אינם רואים סימן ברכה לעולם:
Our scholars taught, he who performs work on the eve of Sabbaths and festivals or at the conclusion of the Sabbath and holidays, on Chanukah, Purim and the festival of the New Moon and in each situation where there is a hint of transgression, including public fasting, these people will never see a sign of blessing.1Pesahim 50b.
