הנותן יין למי שעסקו בנשים הרי זה מסייע עוברי עבירה כי הוא ממשיך את האדם לידי עבירה אבל הנותן יין למי שמצטער ואינו יכול ללמוד ולהתפלל בכונה מפני צערו וכשמשקהו אז מתישבת דעתו עליו ושמח על זה נאמר משמח אלהים ואנשים:
He who gives wine to one whose dealings are with women helps him to transgress, for he draws the man into the hands of transgression.1Yoma 74b. But if one gives wine to another who is suffering and cannot study and pray with devotion because of his pain but when receiving drink his mind becomes settled and joyful, concerning this it is said, “which cheereth God and man” (Judg. 9:13).2Baba Bathra 2b.
