And know also that it is called rechiluth even if he did not say it before the one it concerns, as when one says to his friend: "Such and such did I hear about Reuven that he said about Shimon." For these words lead, if they are heard, one man from another, to stir up strife between Reuven, the speaker, and the one who was spoken about.
And one must be careful not to speak of such things. For even if he wants to warn his friend not to reveal this story to anyone, even if he knows for a certainty that he will fulfill his word, [it is forbidden] for in most cases, there is normally heard at the time of the telling something demeaning about Reuven or about Shimon, and it does not leave the category of lashon hara.
And much more is it forbidden to tell him what Ploni spoke against his sons or relatives, for it is a man's nature to be aggrieved by this; and it is called "rechiluth."
