Ben Ish Hai · Halachot 2nd Year, Noach, Chapter 5

‹›
  1. 1

A man and a woman are obligated equally in the mitzvah of the shabbat candle. But the woman is cautioned to a greater extent, and she also has the priority in that commandment over her husband. If the husband wants to light himself, she can obstruct his hand. However, if the husband wants to light in the place of sleeping - he is allowed to, but without blessing - as I wrote above. But it is the custom regarding a woman who gave birth - that the husband would light in the place of the table and bless on the first shabbat after giving birth.
