אי אפשר לך לרחק את יצרך בלתי אם גם תשנאהו. לא רצון שלא לאבה לו בלבד תעורר בקרבך, רק גם שנאה אליו על שרוצה לאבדך מב׳ העולמות, וכעס גדול עליו על שמטשטש את דעתך ולבך, ורק אז יקל לך לכובשו. לעולם ירגיז אדם יצר טוב על יצר הרע. רוגז וכעס.
PERSONAL PRACTICE FOR SPIRITUAL MATURATION (II): It is not possible to distance yourself from your own wayward impulses unless you truly despise them. In other words, it is not enough merely not to want such negative impulses to well up within, but one must truly despise such wayward impulses and thus to desire such drives to be eradicated from both this world and the next. And one should cultivate as well righteous indignation in their regard—to the extent that your heart and mind become blurry with rage, for only at that point will it become easier to vanquish them. [When our blessed Sages said:] “One should always incite their good inclination against their wayward inclination,” (bBerakhot 5a), [they meant it literally] —self-loathing and [righteous] indignation [to thus enable true spiritual growth].
