ואתה תשמע השמים מכון שבתך וכו' ונתת לאיש ככל דרכיו אשר תדע את לבבו וכו'. ובנכרי כתוב ככל אשר יקרא אליך. ובאמת מפני שישראל אינם חפצים בעומק לבם שום טובה שהוא נגד רצון הש"י, לכן כשהוא מתפלל על טובה באם ישרה בעיני הש"י לתתה לו היה משיגה, ובאם לאו היה נוטל ממנה החשק ולא יחשק עוד לזה ופעל זאת בתפלתו.
“And you shall hear, O Heavens, the place of Your dwelling, and You may forgive, and do, and give to man according to his actions, and You will know his heart, for You alone know the hearts of all men.” (Melachim 1, 8:39) Whereas with the stranger (Nochri or perhaps Gentile, when this exact speech at the inauguration of the First Temple is repeated) it is written, “(Divrei haYamim 2, 6:33), “and do according to all that the stranger calls from You.” Since Israel at the depths of his heart truly does not desire anything against God’s will, therefore when he prays for any good, if it is correct in the eyes of God to give it, he will receive it. If not, then He will remove the desire from him, and he will no longer desire this and ask for its materialization through his prayer.
