מאת כל איש אשר ידבנו לבו תקחו את תרומתי. בשם הבעל שם טוב, היינו שכל אדם צריך לשית עצות בנפשו, להפוך לעשות מדות טובות, מכל אשר ידבנו לבו מהתאוות החיצונייות, ומדות הרעות אשר הרגיל בהם, מהם יקח דרך לעבודת הבורא ברוך הוא, באותו החשק ובאותה התאווה, ביתר שאת: (תפארת שלמה פ' תולדות).
And the L-rd spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering; of every man whose heart prompts him, you shall take My offering. (Exodus 25:1-2) Each person should seek ways to transform his mundane desires1Literally, “external desires” (tava’ot chitzonim). See below, where the Baal Shem Tov explains that within every mundane desire the love of G-d can be found. – all that “his heart prompts him” – into good qualities.
