ויבא אהרן וכל זקני ישראל לאכל לחם וגו'. בשם רבינו בעל שם טוב, שלא מצינו בכל התורה אצל משה רבינו עליו השלום שאכל. רק השלילה מצאנו (בפ' תשא) לחם לא אכל, ומצאנו ויבא אהרן וכל זקני ישראל לאכל לחם עם חותן משה וכו', רק שמשה אכל אכילה רוחניית כזו שאי אפשר לכתוב בתורה הקדושה שהוא בעולם הזה, שאכל, כי לא אכילה גשמיית שבעולם הזה, רק רוחניי מאוד מאוד: (זרע קודש בסוף רמזי פסח).
And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for G‑d; and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before G‑d. (18:12) Nowhere in the Torah do we find it saying that Moses ate. In fact, we find only the opposite: “And he was there with G‑d forty days and nights; he did not eat bread, nor drink water” (Exodus 34:28). We also find: “And Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.”1Moses was surely there, but is not mentioned in the verse. This is because Moses’ eating was so spiritual that is impossible to write in the Torah that it was in this world. It was not a physical eating at all, but extremely spiritual.
