The Baal Shem Tov would not sit in a succah on Shemini Atzeres.14The holiday of Shemini Atzeres (“The Eight [Day] Assembly) follows immediately after the last day of Succos. In countries outside of the Land of Israel, where two days of Yom Tov are observed, Shemini Atzeres is counted as both a holiday by itself, and as the last day of Succos.
